See Lisbon from the Suspension Bridge Viewpoint

A new viewpoint on the 25 de Abril suspension bridge will open next Wednesday, 27 September 2017. This will be an unforgettable experience when you visit Lisbon.

The permanent structure will offer visitors an amazing view of Lisbon, its south bank and the River Tejo, from a glass viewpoint, 80 metres above the city.

Lisbon’s newest attraction – Experiência Pilar 7 – will be a full experience of the city’s iconic structure. Visitors will be able to use virtual reality to experience the work of a bridge maintenance team, see the original bridge mock-up and buy unique items in the shop.

Visitors will also go through a room that uses mirrors to create the illusion of the pillar depth. Then, a walkway over the riverside area will lead to a panoramic lift. This will take visitors up to the glass viewpoint next to the bridge traffic lanes.

How to get to the bridge viewpoint

The entrance to the 25 de Abril bridge viewpoint is on Avenida da Índia.

Take tram #15E from either Praça da Figueira or Praça do Comércio (Terreiro do Paço) – this is the same tram that will take you to Belém. Get off at either Alcântara – 24 de Julho or Calcário stops, then walk 10 minutes towards the bridge’s pillars. You can also take bus #728 from Praça do Comércio.

If you’re closer to Cais do Sodré, then you may take the suburban train to Cascais. Get off at Alcântara (two stops), near Doca de Santo Amaro. The viewpoint is literally across the street but you have to make a detour of about 10 minutes to cross the road.

On tram, bus or train, use the Viva Viagem card.
