While the tuk tuk is not a traditional means of transport in Lisbon, or in Portugal for that matter, it turns out to be a very practical vehicle for getting around the steep and narrow streets of Lisbon.
Several circuits are available, including stops for taking photos and looking around. Prices vary, depending on the tour circuit and duration. Expect €45-70 for one hour tour for up to six people. Special tours are also available on request.
Some companies offer an electric tuk tuk, which is the best option for comfort. Still, some parts of Lisbon can be noisy with heavy traffic. With that in mind, we recommend that you choose a circuit in the historic neighbourhoods, such as Alfama, Graça or Bairro Alto. In general, these are quieter neighbourhoods (traffic wise), and harder to get to know by foot given the paved steep streets. To visit the modern Lisbon, you may consider the hop-on hop-off sightseeing tours.
Tuk tuks can usually be found parked at central streets and squares in Lisbon, namely Praça da Figueira, Praça dos Restauradores (near the Glória funicular), Rua do Carmo and Largo das Portas do Sol in Alfama. Most companies also accept reservations online. Here’s a selection:
